THe Effects of Climate Change

Sometimes if global warming will really result the way the scientists say it will. Of course i do believe that global warming is a problem we need to work towards resolving, but is this really the right way? We are trying to give numeric values to carbon emissions and measure the gases in the ozone layer...and quite frankly i dont think they are things in which you can measure like that. I personally feel that the only way in which we can effectively progress forward is do a complete 180 lifestyle change. We need to stop thinking about the world only during our lifespans and become broader.

Now, in reference to the ideas Broome has presented us with...I think this guy might be on drugs. It is NOT the job of the wealthy to fix this issue. They arent the only ones who exploit planetary resources...in fact it can be debated that the lower class of society are more responsible considering they makeup a larger portion of society than the wealthy and also that they have so many more issues to deal with..using "green" technology is probably not a high priority. Honestly we all need to realize that the way we live our lives have no real benefit to the future. We need to stop measuring, arguing and debating about the numeric values of unmeasurable things and just stop being such one-track minded people.

According to Phelan, the planet is self-extincting. He mentions that human beings used to be nomadic coastal dwellers and now we have become these stationary beings, who have sped up the process of evolution. How through our advances in technology we have become an overpopulated, disease spreading society...and did I mention we are terrified of any type of climate change?

Now Carlin, in contrast to Phelan believed that the things we experience today are just inevitable. That planet earth is self cleansing and no matter what we do "a few plastic bags and aluminum cans" aren't going to be a fatal catalyst. I believe that Carlin makes a valid point..when we think about it logically the planet has been through so many things for a little bit of garbage to cause it to self-combust. We need to just calm down and let nature take its course.

In the movie, Just Add Water, in my opinion the image in which i found to be the best example of the film was sand. As a child i was always fascinated by sand, by the way it felt and how it looked. Every time i would go to the beach i would dig my toes deep and just wiggle them around in delight. But in the movie, sand has a less positive effect on the people of Trona, than it did during my childhood days. Trona is a town covered in sand; a secluded desert wasteland without an exotic location. And just like the town in which it consumes, sand is just plain. Initially, nothing appears to be special about this town and its inhabitants; their lives have no color, they are beige, in thoughts and lifestyle. Like sand, the residents of Trona have succumb to the maelstrom tyranny of a Dirk, who controls the towns people, like the sea does the sand.

But sand is a miraculous thing. At first it seems to be hopeless, with no purpose or future use, but with a little bit of water, it becomes full of potential. It can build castles and skyscrapers and be blown into glass bottles and necklaces. Sand can be a powerful material, but it just needs assistance. Without the tyranny of the sea to hold it back, sand can be beautiful. Looking back, the people of Trona are not any different than sand. Once they have broken free from Dirk, they were able to move forward with there lives and to build something more powerful. We are able to really see the compassion and the beauty in which they posses...all they had to do was "just add water".

The Reality Tests.

A few weeks ago, while spending sometime with a friend i was introduced to the function of the human eye. I learned that similarly to when driving a car, the human sense of sight also has blind spots. However what i was more amazed to find out, was that these blind spots aren't in the corners or on the sides...but they are literally directly in front of our faces. Its amazing also, because the areas in which our eyes are unable to see...our brains make up for it. It is incredible the capabilities of the human brain.

Now in reference to Roebke's article "The Reality Tests", none of us perceives the world as it exists fundamentally. We do not observe the tiniest bits of matter, nor the forces that move them, individually through our senses. none of us perceives the world as it exists fundamentally. We really do create the things we observe simply because our bodies do not have the capabilities to see things as they are.. our brain interpret the holes in our perceptions to make the world seem whole.

My Writing Center Experience.

During my trip to the writing center, I found it to be slightly more informal than my other experiences with writing tutorials. My appointment was scheduled with Allison, and although she was very good at helping me with my paper, when i first walked in there I was very taken aback at what i heard. Apparently there had been some creepy writing center stalker on the prowl trying to pick up one of the girls who worked there. So i spent a good 10 or 15 minutes listening to how some weird guy, wouldn't stop creepin, and how he eventually got in some other guy who worked at the centers face. Allison was great when we actually got around to discussing my work, but by the time we did I was just not into it anymore...the topic of the paper was very confusing to me and although her help was very useful...it didnt really help the confusion that i was feeling... so i did what i always did when i dont know what im writing about...rant. i just went on a windy wording rant...for about 4 pages...and now here i am with a crappy paper that needs to be revised. Oh and did i mention im still confused about it. Where do i go from here????

What is a writer? Well, not to sound from the textbook, but a writer is a person who creates written work. A writer is someone who can convey the ideas in there head, and clearly put them to paper. However, as to the question whether or not I am a writer, I would be forced to respond with a no. I have said many times before, i am not a writer...i am a thinker. I have ideas swirling around in my head, but do i necessarily have the gift and even the desire to bring them to text and convey my thoughts openly...no i do not. I am a thinker and not a writer, because i enjoy the concept of "what if", and writers do not have the luxury to partake in the "what if" concept, or they will simply confuse their audience. There is no room to wander and stray and change their opinions midway through text...and even if they did what would happen..would they be considered successful?
